Reading Fluency

If you would like to continue to grow your child's Oral Reading Fluency this summer, there are a few resources that you can use.  


  • Bubble Words: Have your child practice high frequency words, one list per week.  Our goal is to be at 96% accuracy with each list.  Having your child read the words each day will help move toward that goal.
  • Fluency Practice:If you want to continue progress with your child's Oral Reading Fluency, you can download resources to print off and practice.  

Comprehension Work:

The most important thing to do is encourage your child to read this summer! Here are a few resources that will help you. 

  • Three Ways to Prevent the Summer Slide: Check out this great article on the importance of reading over the summer!
  • Cincinnati Public Library: Visit the library often! There is a fun summer reading program where you child can earn prizes for reading great books!
  • Online Reading Games: Play these online games to stay sharp and take a break from the heat this summer.
  • Do a Book Study with your child! Read a book together.  Discuss the book, and enjoy it together! Here are some great question stems that follow Bloom's Taxonomy!
How to choose good books? View the guides below to help your child choose books that he or she can read independently. 

We use Fountas & Pinnell Assessments to help us monitor student reading levels.  Levels are assigned a letter.  Please select the link that reflects your child's reading level for more some guidance in helping your child choose good books to read!
